Designing graphics or adding free ones is one of the most fun parts of making your web pages. Whether you are an experienced graphic designer or haven't a clue where to even begin...you can still add graphics to your pages that will make them exciting. There are literally thousands of wonderful sites where you can find free graphics, learn how to make your own, and find out what makes good design work.
A good place to start is to look around and find a number of sites that you feel look good and load fast. Get some ideas on what makes a page work well and look good to you. Remember that the longer it takes for your page to load, the less likely it is that people will hang around long enough to really see your work.
You should aim to keep your first page at around 30 K in size. There are some good online tools available to reduce the file sizes of your graphics. I have listed some along with sites for free graohics, graphic software, and tutorials. As I add to this site, I will be posting some additional tutorials of my own.

Unless you own Photoshop, I would recommend Paint Shop Pro for starting out with creating your own graphics. It is an excellent graphics program and can do almost anything that Photoshop can do. You can download a free 30 day trial at
